Symmetry Properties of the Transitional Sphere Wake

چکیده
Conclusions A new exact solution to the Navier–Stokes equations for ow in the vicinity of the forward stagnation streamline on a sphere has been developed. These solutions describe the ow eld all of the way from the body surface to the uniform ow far from the body, in contrast to the traditional stagnation point solutions and, hence, may be used to obtain solutions for the entire range of Reynolds numbers. Solutions have been obtained for the vorticity eld and the stream function eld for Reynolds numbers from 10¡2 to 10, and these solutions have been used to calculate the stagnation point pressure coef cient on a sphere for this Reynolds number range. The results provide an excellent prediction of the stagnation point pressure coef cient over the entire Reynolds number range.

Local Symmetry of Unit Tangent Sphere Bundle With g- Natural Almost Contact B-Metric Structure
We consider the unit tangent sphere bundle of Riemannian manifold ( M, g ) with g-natural metric G̃ and we equip it to an almost contact B-metric structure. Considering this structure, we show that there is a direct correlation between the Riemannian curvature tensor of ( M, g ) and local symmetry property of G̃. More precisely, we prove that the flatness of metric g is necessary and sufficien...
متن کاملThree Dimensional Analysis of Flow Past a Solid-Sphere at Low Reynolds Numbers with the Aid of Body Fitted Coordinates
In this paper, the flow-field of an incompressible viscous flow past a solid-sphere at low Reynolds numbers (up to 270) is investigated numerically. In order to extend the capabilities of the finite volume method, the boundary (body) fitted coordinates (BFC) method is used. Transformation of the partial differential equations to algebraic relations is based on the finite-volume method with coll...

متن کاملKinematics and Dynamics of Sphere Wake Transition
The wake of a sphere undergoes a number of symmetry-breaking transitions as it changes from laminar to turbulent. This paper concentrates on the "rst two transitions. At Re"212 a regular transition occurs, when the wake develops a spectacular two-tailed structure consisting of two trailing streamwise vortices. During the second transition at Re"272 the #ow undergoes a Hopf bifurcation. In this ...
متن کاملWake transition of a rolling sphere
We present dye visualizations of the flow generated by a sphere rolling along a solid surface in a quiescent fluid at low Reynolds numbers. Recent experimental and numerical studies of this configuration (Stewart et al. 2008, 2010) have shown a transition from steady to periodic flow at a Reynolds number Re (based on the sphere diameter and rolling speed) near 100. The unsteady flow involves th...
